Meet the Facial Sagging Team

This site is led and medically reviewed by Tongchun Mao, MD, who performs facial and lifting surgery here and who is responsible for the medical content. The other three physicians contribute what an assessment of a changing face often needs: the center’s surgical standards and revision experience for the operations that reposition tissue, the skin and laser assessment that separates surface quality from position, and the dermatologic diagnosis of conditions that change a face for reasons other than ageing.

Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Facial descent · repositioning tissue rather than adding volume to it · saying when a lift is and is not the honest answer

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon at Chongqing West District Hospital, where he is Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery in its Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and the responsible physician for this site. He personally performs more than 700 operations a year, within hospital standards of assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up.

On this site his part is establishing what has actually changed, because the plan depends on it. He examines the face at rest and then in movement, follows the jawline to see whether the tissue that belongs over the cheekbone is still there, looks at the profile for bony support, and records what has been placed in the face before and when. Where the finding is descent he says so and describes what repositioning involves; where the finding is volume or skin quality he says that instead. His stated discipline is to refuse to add volume to a face whose tissue has moved down, and to say when the honest answer is to wait.

Clinical focus

  • Separating descent from volume loss and from skin quality
  • The jawline and the position of the cheek pad
  • Bony support, assessed in profile rather than from the front
  • Standardised photography so change is judged against something
  • Revision assessment when previous volume has made a face heavier

Descent, not shrinkage

A sagging face has not shrunk. The cheek pad has moved down over the jawline and the skin above it has followed. Only an operation moves that tissue back, and everything below that rung works on the surface, on movement or on volume. Adding volume to tissue that has already fallen usually makes it look heavier rather than younger.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Center leadership · surgical standards and complex revision

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team he provides the surgical perspective and the tertiary-hospital backstop — the assessment when an operation is the honest answer, and the hospital-level care for the rare complication that needs it.

Within this site his part is the standard a lifting plan has to meet and the backstop behind it. Where repositioning surgery is being considered, or where previous treatment has left a face heavier than it began, that work sits within his part of the service.

Clinical focus

  • Center leadership and multidisciplinary case review
  • Surgical assessment when an operation is the honest answer to descent or excess skin
  • Hospital-based care for the rare complication that needs theatre-level management
Ke He

Ke He (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Skin and laser aesthetics · skin quality, and the limits of devices

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director and head of skin and laser aesthetics within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team her role is the device and injectable assessment, and the honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle.

Within this site her part is the surface: assessing what skin quality contributes to a tired-looking face, what a device can honestly change in mild laxity, and where a device stops and surgery begins. She judges a result against standardised photographs rather than against memory.

Clinical focus

  • Device and injectable assessment before any treatment plan
  • Staged planning judged against standardised photographs
  • Honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · the face that changed for another reason

Dr. Yongbo Jia is a dermatologist within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is medical skin assessment — diagnosing and managing pigment and barrier conditions, and treating skin that a device or an injection has irritated.

Within this site his part is the face that is not simply ageing: skin disease, inflammation and the conditions that alter facial appearance and that have to be identified before treatment of descent is planned.

Clinical focus

  • Medical skin assessment behind injectable treatment plans
  • Diagnosis and management of pigment and barrier conditions
  • Dermatologic care of skin after irritation or a delayed reaction

Start with what has actually changed

Arrange an assessment. We will examine the face at rest and in movement, look at where the tissue above the jawline now sits, and say whether the change you have noticed is descent, volume or skin quality.
