If the change was sudden, or on one side

Do not book a cosmetic consultation first. A face that has dropped over hours or days, weakness on one side of the face, an eye or a mouth that will not close, drooling, or a change in speech needs medical assessment. Where any of that comes with weakness in a limb, difficulty swallowing or a sudden severe headache, emergency care is the right route rather than a clinic appointment.

Arranging an ordinary assessment

Where the change has developed gradually and there is none of the above, appointments are made through the hospital outpatient line or through the appointment service described on the appointments page. Say that you are asking about facial changes so that the right clinic time is booked. If you are travelling from outside Chongqing, say so when you book, because the assessment and any discussion of a plan can sometimes be arranged in fewer visits.

What to bring

Bring photographs of your face from different years, taken as straight-on as you can find, because they show what has changed and how quickly far better than a description does. Bring a record of any treatment you have had to the face with the dates, and a list of your current medicines and allergies. If you have dental or orthodontic records, bring those as well, because the bite and the jaw are part of what a changing lower face is read against.

What happens at the consultation

Expect an examination rather than a presentation. The face is looked at at rest and then in movement, the jawline is followed to see where the tissue above it now sits, the profile is examined for bony support, skin quality is assessed separately from position, and previous treatment to the face is recorded with dates. You should leave knowing what has actually changed, what the options are, and what each of them does and does not do.
